West Indies made a shocking start to their title defence. Facing England in their tournament opener, the 2016 champions were bowled out for just 55 (Chris Gayle top-scored with 13) and unsurprisingly, failed to defend their total, slumping to a six-wicket defeat with 70 balls remaining. West Indies have now lost four of their past five T20s.
South Africa were also defeated in their opening match, losing to Australia by five wickets. The Proteas performed poorly with the bat, slipping to 23 for 3 inside the powerplay before limping to 118. Their bowling was, on the whole, quite tidy, however, and Australia only got over the line with two balls to spare. South Africa had won their past five T20s prior to Saturday's match.
Both sides will be looking bounce back with a win, but the advantage is with South Africa, who won a recent series between the two sides 3-2.
Dafabet are backing West Indies to win this clash and are offering odds of 4/5 in favour of the defending champions. South Africa are available at evens.
Following the success of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali against West Indies on Saturday, Tabraiz Shamsi will likely be an important player for South Africa. The left-arm wrist spinner, who is the ICC's number one-ranked T20I bowler, took 1 for 22 against Australia and showed good form against Afghanistan in a warm-up fixture, posting figures of 3 for 18. He was also South Africa's leading wicket-taker against West Indies in June, picking up seven wickets in 20 overs and recording an economy of just 4.00.
With the bat, Quinton de Kock will be out for revenge after scoring just seven runs against Australia. The opener, ranked seventh on the T20 Player Index, hasn't been in great touch of late, passing 20 just twice in his past six T20 innings. However, prior to this downturn in form, he had three half-centuries in four matches.
For West Indies, Akeal Hosein performed well just his seventh T20I, taking 2 for 24 in his side's futile defence against England, including a stunning caught and bowled to remove Liam Livingstone. Prior to the start of the T20 World Cup, Hosein impressed in the Caribbean Premier League, taking 13 wickets and recording an economy of 4.92 for Trinbago Knight Riders.
Like de Kock, West Indies' middle-order danger duo Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell will be itching to return to their hard-hitting ways after performing poorly against England.
South Africa are unlikely to make any changes to the side which nearly pulled off an historic defence against Australia. West Indies, however, may look to form batter Roston Chase (446 runs in the 2021 CPL) to shake things up at the top of the order. The question is, who would they drop?

South Africa got the better of West Indies in a T20I series in June and were on a strong run of form prior to their defeat against Australia. However, West Indies have a star-studded line-up, enviable batting depth and firepower, and a point to prove after their humiliation on Saturday. West Indies win.
