Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium: Ground guide
After losing to Australia in their tournament opener, South Africa have bounced back with back-to-back wins over West Indies and Sri Lanka. Against the 2016 champions, they cruised to an eight-wicket win with 10 balls to spare while against Sri Lanka, they squeezed over the line with one ball remaining to secure a four-wicket win. South Africa have now won 13 of their past 16 T20s stretching back to June 2021.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, have lost all three of their Super 12 matches to date and are on the brink of elimination. They have suffered heavy defeats against Sri Lanka (five wickets) and England (eight wickets) but came close to picking up two points against West Indies, falling four runs short in their chase. Bangladesh have won just two of their past eight T20s.
Bangladesh and South Africa have met six times in T20Is, with the Proteas winning on every occasion.
Dafabet have installed South Africa as favourites to win this encounter, offering odds of 3/10.
Bangladesh are available at 12/5.
Aiden Markram has been South Africa's standout batter in the UAE. Ranked 155th on the men's T20 Player Index, Markram is the only player on his team to pass 100 runs in the tournament to date and kicked off his campaign with knocks of 40 (36 balls) and 51 not out (26) - the latter a match-winning contribution against West Indies. He faltered against Sri Lanka, scoring just 19 runs, but has scored four 40-plus knocks in his past nine T20 innings.
With the ball, Dwaine Pretorius is South Africa's leading wicket-taker, with six from his 8.4 overs. However, it with Tabraiz Shamsi who starred against Sri Lanka, picking up 3 for 17.
Bangladesh have lost Shakib Al Hasan to a hamstring injury, depriving the Tigers of a top-order batter and their leading wicket-taker. Fortunately, captain Mahmudullah made a welcome return to form with the bat against West Indies, scoring 31 not out from 24 balls to nearly drag his side to victory. The veteran batter has a T20I strike rate of 119.68, but is currently scoring at 132.74 in this World Cup.
Mahedi Hasan is Bangladesh's other standout bowler, taking seven wickets and bowling with an economy of 5.95. However, he has taken just two wickets in the Super 12 and it will be interesting to see how he copes without his spin partner Shakib.
Reeza Hendricks replaced Heinrich Klaasen in South Africa's XI against Sri Lanka and batted at the top of the order. It didn't work out for the 32-year-old, who scored just 11 runs, but Temba Bavuma benefitted from batting at no.4, scoring a team-leading 46 runs. And having scored 39 in his previous outing at no.2, Hendricks will likely retain his spot.
Bangladesh are suffering with injuries with Shakib Al Hasan joining Mohammad Saifuddin in the sick bay. Shoriful Islam has replaced Saifuddin while Nurul Hasan could be recalled in place of Shakib.

Bangladesh have struggled even with Shakib in the squad and without him, they've lost their best player. This is the perfect opportunity for the Proteas to rediscover their mojo - South Africa win.
