India wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been ordered to remove military insignia off his wicketkeeping gloves by World Cup organisers.

The former India captain is an honorary lieutenant colonel in India's Parachute Regiment and its dagger badge was printed on his wicketkeeper's gloves for Virat Kohli's men's win over South Africa on Wednesday in Southampton.

An ICC statement read: "The ICC has responded to the BCCI to confirm the logo displayed by MS Dhoni in the previous match is not permitted to be worn on his wicket-keeping gloves at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

The regulations for ICC events do not permit any individual message or logo to be displayed on any items of clothing or equipment. In addition to this, the logo also breaches the regulations in relation to what is permitted on wicketkeeper gloves."

Given that it was a first-time breach, the ICC has only requested the badge be removed without any further punishment.

ICC rules dictate that only manufacturer's logos are allowed on any form of gloves.

This is not the first time MS Dhoni has been caught up in this type of storm after wearing and providing the camouflage-style caps for his India teammates in March during a one-day game against Australia as a tribute after 40 paramilitaries were killed by a suicide bomber in Kashmir.
