Now a veteran of more than 300 internationals, Shakib Al Hasan is perhaps Bangladesh’s greatest ever cricketer.

An allrounder who could get in the side for either discipline - his accurate, dependable left-arm-spin and aggressive shot selection with the bat have made him a sought-after figure in lucrative T20 tournaments around the world.

However, despite appearing in the IPL, Big Bash, T20 Blast, CPL and PSL, Shakib’s commitment to his country has remained unwavering and he has been a genuine matchwinner for Bangladesh.

Just some of Shakib’s long list of honours include being the first Bangladeshi to achieve the ODI double of 2,000 runs and 100 wickets, the fourth bowler to take five-wicket hauls in Tests against all Test-playing nations, the first Bangladeshi to take 500 international wickets and the second Bangladeshi to score 10,000 international runs.

Across his 13-year international career, Shakib has long been viewed as Bangladesh’s talisman and he will be looking forward to the opportunity to take some high-profile scalps at the World Cup – something a Bangladesh side did under his captaincy in the 2011 tournament when they beat England by two wickets.
