Captain Kyle Coetzer and player of the match Josh Davey revel in Scotland's progression to the Super 12 and the second round of a men's T20 World Cup for the first time
Scotland will have no fear when they enter the Super 12 stage of the men's T20 World Cup after progressing to the second round for the first time courtesy of victory over Oman in Al Amarat.
Set 123 to win, Shane Burger's side reached their target with seven wickets in hand and three overs remaining, to qualify with a 100 per cent record.
Automatic qualifiers Afghanistan, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan await in the next phase but captain Kyle Coetzer says his buoyant cohorts are relishing the challenge.
"It's a great feeling," he said at the post-match presentation. "An opportunity for Scotland to test themselves against the best, the following back home is immense.
"A real togetherness among our squad, through thick and thin, just missed out on group stage last World Cup.
"The guys are in a great place and a well-established outfit with bat, ball, and in the field.
"As far as I'm aware this group we were just in was a mighty tough group so the next one will be tougher. We will go into every game full of hope and belief that we can win more games."
Captain Coetzer led the way with 41 in the chase
After directly qualifying for 12-team tournaments in 2007 and 2009, Scotland went three editions of the T20 World Cup without appearing before returning in 2016.
Though they claimed their first win at a global ICC event, they failed to progress from their first-round group including Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong.
Only Shakib Al Hasan has more wickets in the tournament than Josh Davey, whose eight scalps have come at 8.37 with an economy rate of 5.82.
"What a day for Scottish cricket, the boys are buzzing," said the Somerset seamer, who was named player of the match.
"We've got an early flight but there will be a few celebrations. A great occasion to showcase my skills, a bit of luck but will take that every day of the week.
"We've got the belief, a lot of bases covered, and T20 is about momentum, and we can take that on."
