Georgia Elwiss

Elwiss is a right-handed allrounder who has been a regular in the England squad during her career

An MCC Young Cricketer from 2010, Georgia Elwiss made her England debut as a 20-year-old in South Africa.

By then, the Wolverhampton-born allrounder had already been included in an international squad after Jenny Gunn was ruled out through injury, but she did not play.

The following year, she impressed against India, taking six wickets and conceding her runs at less than two per over. She was named as the player of the series.

A World Cup call-up followed in 2013, but England disappointed in the tournament.

Injuries then took over; Elwiss missed the 2013 Ashes with a back problem and then the 2014 series against India with a broken hand.

She would make her Test bow the following year against Australia at Canterbury – once again at the expense of Gunn, whose presence in a similar role has over the years restricted Elwiss' appearances.

She captained Loughborough Lightning in the Kia Super League, impressing as a leader and a senior figure in an often-inexperienced dressing room.

She remains under a central contract but sits increasingly on the periphery of England selection, last representing her country in the 2021 Test draw with India, when she was a surprise choice by captain Heather Knight.

In 2021, Elwiss had an excellent campaign in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, averaging 53 and scoring 265 runs as Vipers retained their title.
