Ellyse Perry has encouraged her Australia teammates to use the platform of next month’s T20 Women’s World Cup to “capture people’s imaginations”.
Australia won the most recent edition in 2018, beating England in the final in Antigua, and the talismanic allrounder has challenged her side to back up their performances since then. A dominant Ashes victory in England during the summer of 2019 was followed by comprehensive wins over West Indies and Sri Lanka.
“We’ve been successful and played some really great cricket, especially in the last 24 months or so, so this is the next challenge for us,” she explained.
“It’s a really great opportunity to hopefully do something special.
“Given the quality of opposition, it’s going to be a great spectacle (and) it’s also going to make it really difficult for us to be successful, but I think that’s absolutely everything you want in a World Cup.
“I think we want to capture people’s imaginations and make it really entertaining and make it something they want to tune in and watch.”

Katy Perry is set to perform at the final of the competition, where it is hoped 100,000 fans will turn out at the MCG.
