Every game in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League is being held at Warner Park on St Kitts, in an effort to minimise the Covid-19 risk to the tournament.
Both sides head into this match with winning momentum and plenty of confidence after winning their respective semi-finals. St Lucia Kings scored a mammoth 205 for 4 when put in to bat against Trinbago Knight Riders before bowling the defending champions out for 184 to seal a 21-run win and exact revenge for last year's final defeat. St Kitts chased down 178 inside 18 overs to cruise to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Neither side had a particularly stellar group stage. St Kitts were the early pace-setters, winning their first five matches before tailing off in the second half of the competition (one win, four defeats) to finish third. St Lucia won five and lost five in the group stage to finish fourth.
However, when these two sides met in the group stage, St Lucia emerged victorious on both occasions. In the first encounter, the Kings posted a huge 224 for 2 with the bat before bowling St Kitts out for just 124 to seal a 100-run victory. In their second match, St Lucia bowled the Patriots out for 118 before chasing down their target with 26 balls and six wickets to spare.
David Wiese grabbed the headlines for St Lucia in the semi-finals, scoring 34 not out off 21 balls with the bat and taking 5 for 39 with the ball, and the Sussex allrounder could be crucial again in the final. A useful middle-order man, Wiese has scored at a strike rate of 134.84 in his four innings to date, while with the ball, he has taken two five-fors in 13 overs.
Mark Deyal scored 78 (44) in the semi-final to top-score for St Lucia but the decisive players with the bat are likely to be Roston Chase and Tim David. Chase is currently second in the run-scoring charts this season with 403 runs, including four half-centuries, and a strike rate of 149.81. David, meanwhile, has spent the past 12 months establishing a reputation as a finisher and has done so for St Lucia, scoring at a strike rate of 148.63.
For St Kitts, all eyes will be on Evin Lewis, the leading run-scorer in the competition. The 29-year-old, who has scored 420 runs in 10 matches, was on song once again in the semis, scoring an unbeaten 77 from just 39 balls. He has now scored 181 runs from 91 deliveries in his past two outings for St Kitts and the run battle between himself and Chase should be exciting.
Also keep an eye out for Fawad Ahmed, the Patriots' economical Australian spinner. Ahmed has taken nine wickets in his nine matches to date and has a team-leading economy of 6.33.
