RCB were bowled out for just 68 in the first innings, a total Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down in eight overs
Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore 68, Sunrisers Hyderabad 72-1 – Sunrisers Hyderabad won by nine wickets
Five years to the day since posting the lowest total in IPL history, Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a humiliating nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Back in 2017, RCB were bowled out for just 49 by KKR and after losing all 10 wickets for 68 runs against Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers, they now possess four of the 10 lowest scores in IPL history. Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) are the only other side with multiple entries in the top 10.
Marco Jansen started the flow of wickets, with the young South African quick striking three times in the second over to remove Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat and reduce RCB to 8 for 3.
Glenn Maxwell (12) – one of only two RCB players to reach double figures – also departed inside the powerplay before a 27-run fifth-wicket stand (25 balls) between Suyash Prabhudessai and Shahbaz Ahmed appeared to have restored some order to proceedings.

Abhishek Sharma scored 47 runs in Sunrisers' chase
However, their change in fortunes proved to be short-lived and when Jagadeesha Suchith removed Prabhudessai (RCB’s top-scorer with 15) in the eighth over, it sparked a second collapse which saw Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed join him in the shed within six balls.
Floundering on 49 for 7, Wanindu Hasaranga spearheaded two resilient partnerships, eating up 36 balls in the company of Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood, but it was too little, too late and RCB were all out for 68 in 16.1 overs.
Jansen and T Natarajan picked up three scalps apiece while Suchith (2 for 12), Umran Malik (1 for 13) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1 for 8) were also among the wickets.
And Sunrisers Hyderabad required just eight overs to wrap up their nine-wicket win, with Abhishek Sharma smashing 47 runs from 28 balls to steer his side to within five runs of victory.
He was dismissed by Patel in the eighth over, leaving Williamson (16 from 17) and Rahul Tripathi (7 off 3) to see their side home.
