The Mumbai Indian captain was fined 12 lakh for the offence which took place during his side’s six-wicket defeat on April 20
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side’s clash with Delhi Capitals on April 12.
Under the IPL guidelines, the captain of the offending team is fined 12 lakh for the first instance of a slow over rate, with the fine rising to 24 lakh for the captain and 25 per cent of their match fee – or six lakh – for every other member of the playing XI.
A third offence results in the captain paying a 30 lakh fine and serving a one-match ban. The playing XI are fined 12 lakh, or 50 per cent of their match fee – whichever is less.
Commenting on Sharma’s fine, the IPL said: "As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s code of conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined 12 lakh."
Mumbai Indians succumbed to a six-wicket defeat in the aforementioned match against Delhi. Batting first, Sharma’s side posted 137 for nine but couldn’t defend the total, losing the match with five balls remaining.
Sharma is the second captain to be fined for a slow over-rate during this year's tournament, joining Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni.
