Lance Klusener has quit as Zimbabwean batting coach, with the former South Africa international leaving with immediate effect.

Klusener has built up an array of coaching experience and previously served as Zimbabwe's batting coach between 2016 and 2018. The 51-year-old was also Afghanistan's head coach at the 2021 T20 World Cup last year.

His departure comes just two weeks before Zimbabwe's T20 World Cup campaign begins as they compete in Group B with the West Indies, Scotland and Ireland for a place in the Super 12s.

In a statement Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) said: "According to his agent, the decision follows Klusener's desire to pursue professional engagements around the globe which will impact his full-time availability for the national team's programmes."

Givemore Makoni, ZC's manager director, added: "We are grateful to Lance for everything he has contributed during his time with us, including helping us to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 which gets underway in Australia in a few days.

"Unfortunately, due to his pressing commitments elsewhere, he could not continue with us on a full-time basis and we agreed it was in the best interests of both parties to terminate his contract. We wish him the best as he pursues new endeavours."

Klusener already has a new role in his in-tray after being appointed head coach of Durban Super Giants ahead of the inaugural SA20 (South Africa's new franchise tournament) in January 2023.
