Brisbane: Pakistan 160-8, England 164-4 - England won by six wickets

England's final T20 World Cup warmup game was an exercise in range-hitting, as Pakistan were thrashed at the Gabba.

With players given an opportunity to have time at the wicket - captain Jos Buttler and his deputy Moeen Ali relegated themselves down the batting order - the English batsmen seemed to have been briefed to hit long and only hit long as they made a target of 161 appear miniscule.

Ben Stokes made a flashbang 36, while there were entertaining middle-order cameos from Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran. Harry Brook top-scored with an unbeaten 45.

In total, England struck 12 sixes in 14.4 overs, against Pakistan's single clearance of the ropes.

Pakistan had scrambled to 160 in a contest which was reduced to 19 overs per side because of rain.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan watched on from the sidelines as Shan Masood ensured their side got off to a good start with 39 from 22 balls, but that was as good as it got for Pakistan, who lost their way after the powerplay.

From 67 for 1 after 6.2 overs, they slumped to 124 for 6 eight-and-a-half overs later, and only late impetus from Mohammad Wasim Jnr (26 off 16 balls), pushed the required rate in the chase above eight runs per over.

England gave Phil Salt and Alex Hales the chance to open the batting together, but neither fired - Salt was bowled by Naseem Shah for 1 and Hales was caught in the deep off Shadab Khan for a 13-ball 9.

Stokes cracked three sixes in 18 balls, while Livingstone (28 in 16 balls) added two more - one of which sailed out of the Gabba, a remarkable hit.

The innings gained momentum as it went along, and by the end Curran and Brook were hitting boundaries for fun.

Brook's 45 came from 24 deliveries, Curran hit 33 off 14, and Pakistan made everything that much worse by spilling several relatively routine chances in the field.
