What’s the match?

Chennai Super Kings meet Mumbai Indians in the 2021 IPL.

When is it taking place?

The game is scheduled for 6pm UAE (3pm BST, 7.30pm IST) on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

Where is the match being played?

Dubai's International Stadium will stage the match.

Who’s got the form?

Chennai Super Kings recovered from a poor 2020 to begin this year’s competition well. They start the second half of their campaign in second place, with only Delhi Capitals above them, with a net run rate that is comfortably the best in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians have often been slow starters, and that was no different this year: they won just four of their opening seven games to sit fourth after seven games. Rohit Sharma’s men will be confident, though, of pushing on between now and the playoff phase.

What are the odds?

Dafabet have Mumbai Indians as the hot favourites to win this match, offering odds of 3/4. Chennai Super Kings are available at odds of 21/20.

Fancy MS Dhoni making a splash of the IPL's return, you can get him at a generous 6/1 to be CSK's top runscorer in the fixture.

And if you think Rohit Sharma is bound to get off to a flyer, why not bank on Mumbai's first over generating more runs than CSK's. That's an even-money shot.

Who are the ones to watch?

Faf du Plessis was the third-highest run-scorer through the first half of the tournament, but he has struggled with a concussion since, which ruled him out of The Hundred. However, he returned in time to captain St Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League, meaning he should be in better nick than those who have enjoyed a longer break from the franchise circuit. He is a doubt for their first match, however, as he nurses a groin injury.

MS Dhoni is heading to the T20 World Cup in a mentorship capacity later his autumn, but he remains Chennai’s wicketkeeper and captain in the meantime.

For Mumbai, Rohit is still key; he has 250 runs in seven matches at this stage, while he is also ranked 53rd in the T20 Player Index. No doubt, he would be higher if India’s cricketers were able to play in overseas competitions. With the ball, Rahul Chahar is their leading wicket-taker, but Jasprit Bumrah is in fine working order – as England found to their detriment.

What's the team news?

Du Plessis is a doubt, having suffered a groin problem while on CPL duty. Mumbai Indians are set to be at full strength.

What's the head to head record?

The two teams have played each other 31 times.

Chennai Super Kings wins: 12

Mumbai Indians wins: 19

What's the weather forecast?

It is set to be sweltering in Dubai, with temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius predicted for the start time. Follow the Met Office forecast here.

Are fans allowed in?

No, this match will be played behind closed doors owing to the Covid-19 situation in India.

What’s the prediction?

Mumbai Indians typically start tournaments slowly, it's become something of a trademark. But will this resumption count in the same way?
