The 26-year-old came through the New Road youth system but has been a white-ball player at Edgbaston since 2016

Worcestershire have reacquired former academy star Ed Pollock on a two-year from Warwickshire.

The 26-year-old was part of the youth system up through to Under-17 level.

Pollock was picked up by Warwickshire in 2016 and has since played 25 List A matches and 46 T20s for the Bears.

He returns to New Road from next season on a deal running until 2023 and hopes to become an established red-ball player. His five first-class outings have thus far have come for Durham MCCU between 2015 and 2017.

“It really is exciting for me to go full circle," said the left-handed batter, who has a T20 strike rate of 160.96.

“It feels like a good time to come back to Worcestershire and put together everything I’ve learnt here as a youngster and these last few years at Warwickshire.

“I really do feel my best years are ahead of me.

“Red ball cricket is at the forefront of my mind. I’ve always believed in my red ball ability. I played a few first-class games when I was at Durham University, and I never felt out of my depth."

News of the signing follows confirmation of Daryl Mitchell's retirement at the end of the current campaign.

Cricket Steering Group chairman Paul Pridgeon added: “We feel it is a good signing. He will play all formats, and he is a dangerous white-ball cricketer, and I feel we need a power player at the top of the order in white-ball cricket.

“A point worth making is that in every white ball game we’ve lost this year, we have failed to hit as many fours and sixes as the opposition.

“This is a way of addressing it, and Ed will excite our members and supporters when in full flow."
