Sri Lanka seamer Nuwan Pradeep ruled out of Bangladesh clash after suffering finger injury in training

Losing Pradeep would be a blow to Sri Lanka, who were indebted to the 32-year-old’s skiddy pace as he took four wickets in his country’s win over Afghanistan

Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep will miss his side's game against Bangladesh on Tuesday after being hit on the hand as his squad practiced on Sunday.

Pradeep suffered a dislocated finger, which was treated at a local hospital after he was struck by a shot from Kusal Perera as the pair prepared for Tuesday’s game at Bristol.

Although the seamer was able to get his hand in the way, he suffered a blow to his finger on his bowling hand.

His team-mates immediately gathered around the bowler as they saw the severity of the blow.

Team manager Asthana de Mel said: "Nuwan was given treatment at the hospital while the doctors reset his dislocated finger and the cut on his finger was closed with stitches."

He added that Pradeep would not take part in the clash with Bangladesh, with the bowler needing a week to recover from the injury.

Losing Pradeep is a blow to Sri Lanka, who were indebted to the 32-year-old’s skiddy pace as he took four wickets in his country’s win over Afghanistan.

His figures of four for 31 at Cardiff are the best of his one-day international career. He came into the competition in good form, having also taken four wickets in a pre-tournament clash with Scotland.

With the exception of Lasith Malinga, Pradeep has been the pick of Sri Lanka’s bowlers so far in this World Cup, having performed better than the experienced duo of Isuru Udana and Suranga Lakmal.

Kasun Rajitha, who has been training with the team in the UK as a standby option, would likely replace Pradeep should he be forced to withdraw from the squad completely.
