A superb knock by Scarborough College captain Duncan Brown set up a 31-run victory over Radley College
A superb knock by Scarborough College captain Duncan Brown set up a 31-run victory over Radley College in what was both teams' opening game in The Cricketer Schools 100 tournament.
Opening the batting alongside Ben Jarvis, the skipper played fluently from the off, scoring to all parts of the ground, smashing nine fours and five sixes in a 44-ball 82.
Jarvis himself played useful hand of 16 in an 46-run opening stand with his captain before being caught off the bowling of Jack Cottrell as he looked to up the tempo.
That brought Breidyn Schaper (12 off 20) to the crease, who also proved a useful foil for Brown, playing his part in a 53-run partnership as the captain continued to dispatch the ball to all parts.
Brown looked nailed for a hundred but finally fell looking to go aerial and was caught by Edward Horsfield off the bowling of Edward Parkes to end a fantastic innings.
Radley College captain George O'Connor
We are just two game into the tournament but it will take something special to top Brown’s 82 which represented 61.65 per cent of Radley's total of 133.
Alfie Wood struck twice in four balls to remove George Acheson-Gray (15) and Rory Wooster for a two-ball duck to have Radley on the back foot at 22 for 2.
Rory Acheson-Gray and George O'Connor provided a spirited fightback in a partnership of 71 before Wood returned to pick up his third wicket of the innings, bowling O’Connor for 39.
Ferdinand Spicer became the fourth and final Radley wicket, falling to Romario Brathwaite who has recently been selected for the Caribbean Premier League draft which highlights the level of talent on show.
Brown's innings proved to be the decisive performance in the match, but Radley can take heart from their chase, with O’Connor’s 39 off 33 the standout showing.
