Nathan Barnwell and Tom Lawes have signed rookie contracts with Surrey for the 2022 season.
Both players are products of the club's academy system, first joining Surrey at under-9s, and made their second XI debuts in 2021.
18-year-old Barnwell is a pace bowler and an adept lower-order finisher with the bat in white-ball fixtures. The former Caterham School pupil has made four ODI appearances for England U19s – taking eight wickets, represented London & East in the ECB Super 4s and made three appearances for Surrey’s second XI.
Lawes, also 18, is something of a triple threat: a powerful middle-order batter, a skilful fast-medium bowler, and an athletic fielder. He struggled with injury in 2021 but still managed to make seven appearances for the second XI.
Commenting on the newest additions to Surrey’s senior squad, director of cricket, Alec Stewart, said: "I am pleased Nathan and Tom have agreed rookie contracts with the club. We have followed their progress in the academy and performance pathway and have been impressed with how they’re maturing and developing as cricketers.
"I look forward to seeing how they progress over the coming months while working closely with the rest of the first team squad and our coaches."
