Durham have offered use of their Emirates Riverside ground to the National Health Service, with the venue now closed to the general public and all non-essential staff.

The move comes amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the decision to close will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

The county have also offered the premises to the local council, as well as the support of staff who may be of assistance.

Durham chief executive Tim Bostock said: “Throughout this ongoing situation the senior leadership team at the club have been meeting on a daily basis and reviewing our operational practices in line with government advice.

“All decisions have been taken with the health and safety of our customers and staff in mind.

“Most staff have been working from home since last week and we have now taken the decision to close Emirates Riverside entirely to minimise any risks to staff and customers. This decision will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

“Where possible our staff are now working from home and we are available to deal with any enquiries via the email addresses provided below.”
