Steven Finn will miss the rest of the 2018 season to focus on rehabilitating his injured left knee

Middlesex have announced that pace bowler Steven Finn will miss the remainder of the 2018 season as he continues to focus on the rehabilitation of his troublesome left knee.

England bowler Finn, who has been managing his knee since injuring it in Australia as England prepared for the Ashes last winter, has only featured in four first-class fixtures this season, taking nine wickets at an average of 43.88.

The 29-year-old did, though, captain Middlesex in the absence of Dawid Malan to England duty in the Royal One-Day Cup earlier in the season, while he has taken 12 wickets in seven matches in the tournament this year.

Middlesex have stated that Finn has been playing injured all season with his appearances borne out of necessity due to various injury problems present in the squad.

On the decision for Finn to concentrate on getting back to full fitness, the official Middlesex website said: “Finn and Middlesex Cricket's medical team have been managing his knee throughout the season and it has hampered his ability to perform close to his best.

“Injury and illness to other Middlesex bowlers has left the club short of seamers and Finn has been prepared to play despite being affected by this issue. But, now that it is no longer possible for Middlesex to gain promotion, it is felt that he should concentrate on getting his knee right for 2019.”
