The 13th Indian Premier League has been postponed until at least April 15.

All eight franchises have agreed to the delay from the original start date of March 29, which is due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Earlier this week the World Health Organisation labelled the crisis a global pandemic.

A BBCI statement read: "The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience."

The IPL's governing council are due to meet on Saturday (March 14) to discuss further measures, which could include the competition being cancelled entirely.

Matches are already set to be played behind closed doors while the city of Delhi is set to be removed from the schedule after sports events were banned.

Mumbai is due to host the final on May 24. The BCCI are keen for the tournament window to remain the same, so an increased number of double-headers or a revised format could be implemented to ensure the competition goes ahead.

India's one-day international series against South Africa have already been forced behind closed doors while several other tours and competitions have taken similar measures.
