The hero of last season’s village final at Lord’s produced another match-winning performance with an unbeaten 96 to guide Calmore Sports’ to a four-wicket victory over Oxford Downs and into the last 16.

Milford Hall cruise past Fillongley to set up Dumbleton clash
Milford Hall advanced to the last 16 of the 2022 Voneus Village Cup after defeating perennial Warwickshire champions Fillongley by six wickets, writes Philip Wilcox.
The match was scheduled to be played at Milford Hall but was moved due to a fixture clash. However, this didn’t seem to bother the West Midlands side, who cantered home with nearly 15 overs to spare.

Redbourn edge Mayfield to keep title quest alive
2020 finalists Redbourn edged Mayfield by two wickets to keep their quest for a maiden Voneus Village Cup title alive.
East Sussex champions Mayfield found themselves in trouble at 56 for 4 before a 153-run fifth-wicket stand between Noah James and Tristan Killops helped them to 214 for 6.
In reply, Redbourn made a bright start before faltering in their chase. They sealed victory with two wickets and four balls to spare.

Meigle and Pentyrch keep the flag flying for Scotland and Wales
Meigle and Pentyrch have kept the flag flying for Scotland Wales after winning their respective Voneus Village Cup round five clashes.
Scottish champions Meigle beat Carlton Towers by 117 runs, with Majid Rasheed scoring his second century of the competition and Charles Clark having a hand in nine of the 10 Carlton Towers wickets to fall.
Pentyrch, the Glamorgan & Gwent champions, successfully defended 142 against Congresbury to secure a 33-run win.

Theakston Player of the Round: John Dotters (Rainford)
After recording first-innings figures of 3 for 10 from eight overs, most players are content with their performance.
However, Rainford skipper John Dotters didn’t stop there, scoring 105 runs from 90 deliveries to help his side chase down 148 against Rockliffe Park and book their place in the last 16 of the 2022 Voneus Village Cup.
He fell with his side six runs shy of victory, stumped by Sam Bainbridge off Gary Lee, but that didn’t knock the shine off his Theakston Player of the Round-winning performance.

From a starting pool of more than 330 teams, just 16 remain on the road to Lord’s.
Aside from Calmore, two-time champions Goatacre are the only other former winners left in the competition. They defeated Cookham Dean by five wickets, with David Miles taking 5 for 20. 2021 finalists Alvanley also remain in the competition after defeating Wolviston by 141 runs while 2021 semi-finalists Stoke Green also progressed after defeating Findon by six runs.
Round five was, however, the end of the road for debutants West Malvern. They lost to Cropston by 117 runs.
There’s set to be a blockbuster encounter on July 3 when Foxton and Leeds & Broomfield meet in Kent. Cambridgeshire champions Foxton defeated Horndon on the Hill by 147 runs while Kent champions defeated 2008 champions Valley End by 102 runs.
Foxton’s Douglas Rice posted the highest individual score of the road, scoring 119 runs, while Adeel Khan took 6 for 28 for Congresbury against Pentyrch – the best figures of the round and the fifth-best figures of the competition to date.
