Fixture: Sunrisers v Northern Diamonds

Venue: Fenner's, Cambridge

Dates: Saturday, June 5, 2021

Start time: 10.30am

What's the lowdown?

Sunrisers are looking to register their first win of the competition after two damaging losses in the opening round. The 135-run humbling by South East Stars was followed by another defeat to Thunder to leave rooted to the bottom of the table.

Diamonds got their first win of the summer last weekend in a dramatic six-run victory in a low-scoring thriller against Lightning. They had kicked off the campaign in another close game, this time losing out by two wickets to Central Sparks.

Who should I watch out for?

Katherine Brunt took an impressive four wickets for Diamonds against Lightning last weekend to inspire that opening win. Beth Langston, Nat Sciver and Katie Levick all took two wickets to underpin the success

In the week prior, Lauren Winfield-Hill struck a dramatic century as the team set an imposing total of 279, though they would eventually be beaten in the chase.

Positives for Sunrises are few and far between but Fran Wilson looks in good touch following her determined half-century. Hot young prospect Sonali Patel also showcased her talent, taking 4 for 40 in seven overs. Kelly Castle added another wicket to her tally at the weekend after taking three the previous week against Stars.

What's the team news?

Mady Villiers and Fran Wilson are both available for Sunrisers in what could be their final appearance in the 50-over competition.

Meanwhile, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Katherine Brunt and Nat Sciver are all expected to leave the Diamonds squad themselves after this week's third game to prepare for the India Test.

Winfield-Hill heads into international duty after a century in the opening round having also gone to three figures in an England intra-squad game earlier in the summer - and is delighted with her preparation.

“It’s a lovely position to be in to know that if things don’t go your way with England, there’s still something worthwhile underneath with this new set-up we have,” she said.

“Going back to county cricket in the past, England were never that keen for you to go and play in it because the standard wasn’t going to benefit you in any way.

“Now, you can go up and down and your game is still benefiting and moving forwards.”

Sunrisers squad: Kelly Castle, Amara Carr, Kate Coppack, Naomi Dattani, Jo Gardner, Gayatri Gole, Cordelia Griffith, Lissy Macleod, Katie Midwood, Sonali Patel, Mia Rogers, Grace Scrivens, Katherine Speed, Emily Thorpe, Mady Villiers, Emily Woodhouse, Fran Wilson
