Trisha Chetty is one of South Africa’s most experienced players, with 108 ODIs and 68 T20Is to her name.

She is well known for her athleticism behind the stumps and, as a result of her impressive performances for KwaZulu-Natal, she made her South Africa debut in 2007.

In her 68 T20Is up to January 20, 2020, she has scored 1,081 runs at an average of 18, a strike rate of 88.60 and with a high score of 55.

Chetty, along with former player Shandre Fritz, set the record for the highest opening stand (170) in the history of women’s T20I cricket.

She also holds the record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in women’s ODIs.

However, over recent years, she has been in and out of the South Africa team due to poor form and injury.

She was in the squad for the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup in St Lucia but after the start of the tournament she was ruled out due to injury and was replaced by Faye Tunnicliffe.

Chetty has, however, enjoyed a successful 2019 and after impressing for the South Africa Emerging Women, in which she scored 204 runs at an average of 40.8, she also played in South Africa’s ODI series against India in October.

To top off 2019, she was named in the F van de Merwe XI squad for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 Super League.

Chetty’s experience will be invaluable to a South Africa team still fighting to get their hands on some silverware.
