New Zealand’s captain, Sophie Devine has been part of her country’s national side for well over a decade.

Having begun life as a bowler who could also prove useful with the bat, her batting improved in the early years and has continued to do so to the point that it has become her stronger suit.

Heading into the T20 World Cup, just seven players have scored more runs in the competition’s history.

A terrific knock of 145 against South Africa at the 2013 World Cup in India highlighted her credentials among the world’s best players.

With the ball, she has passed 150 international wickets.

A remarkable athlete, Devine has also represented New Zealand on the hockey field.

She has improved with age; now 30 years old, she enjoyed an extraordinary campaign in the 2019 Women’s Big Bash – the tournament’s first season as a standalone event.

Nobody scored more runs than her 769 and nobody made more than her nine half centuries.

Only three players took more wickets than her 19 – a phenomenal individual effort.

Devine also holds the record for the fastest fifty in WT20Is. It came off 18 balls against India at the batting paradise in Bengaluru.

She went on and finished with a 70 off 22 balls.
