Nobody in world cricket scored more runs in women’s T20Is than Naruemol Chaiwai in 2019.

Only three players – teammate Nattakan Chantam, England’s Danni Wyatt and Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof – came within 100 runs of the right-hander.

Granted, she played more games than anyone in that time and, in truth, her record was hardly outstanding – there were just two half centuries, a strike rate of 80.78 and an average of 25.85.

However, it still represented a landmark year for Chaiwai and, of course, for her team.

Both of her fifties have come on the home soil of Bangkok: once against Malaysia and three days earlier against Hong Kong.
