A university graduate in exercise science, Erin Burns has come late to international cricket.

The 31-year-old only made her debut for Australia in September 2019.

During a varied adult life, she added a Masters in physiotherapy to her academic belt, before working as a physio.

She has also become a keen cyclist, initially taking up the discipline to combat a severe cartilage tear in her knee – a blow that kept the allrounder out of action for almost a year through 2014.

Later, she took on a 1,000km bike ride from Wollongong to Melbourne to raise money for Bowel Cancer Australia.

Having begun her Women’s Big Bash career with Hobart Hurricanes, Burns has latterly played alongside Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy with Sydney Sixers.

She sits 18th on the list of the top run-scorers in the history of the competition, while her medium pace has given her a second string to her bow.
