Uncapped Ayesha Naseem has been picked for the upcoming T20 Women’s World Cup in Australia at the age of just 15.

Although Naseem had not yet made her debut for the national team ahead of the tournament, she has represented PCB Challengers, PCB Women XI, Abbottabad Women, Western Warriors, PCB Dynamites and PCB Blasters in domestic competitions.

She has been brought into the World Cup squad due to her aggressive, hard-hitting capabilities which should suit Australian conditions.

Pakistan’s openers performed poorly in their recent T20I series against England, only making a total of 34 runs during the three-match campaign.

This resulted in both Nahida Khan and Ayesha Zafar being dropped from the World Cup squad, giving the opportunity to other batsmen such as Ayesha Naseem to come into the team to try to improve Pakistan’s batting performances.

Naseem’s performances in Pakistan’s National Triangular T20 Women’s Championship were mixed, with some excellent performances at the start before her form dipped as the tournament progressed.

Representing the PCB Blasters in the 2019-20 edition, she hit 22 and 31 in her first two matches.

However, in her final two innings of the Championship she scored just 0 and 11.

Naseem has clearly shown selectors a tenacity and attacking style of cricket which is what Pakistan are look to compete with the world’s best teams.
