PLAYER RATINGS: Hetmyer and Cottrell lead the way as Windies win

TOM EDWARDS runs the rule over the individual performances of the two sets of players during West Indies' victory over England in Barbados...

England

Jason Roy (2): An absolute reverse of the first ODI, got rid of Jason Holder with a brilliant run out, and then got out early playing on. 5

Jonny Bairstow (0): Difficult to say anything positive about a golden duck, but it's never easy to face a left-armer swinging it in on your pads early doors. 2

Joe Root (36): Looked good for the runs that he did get, but will have been pretty miffed to get out feathering an uppercut off Thomas. 6

Eoin Morgan (70): A fine performance with the bat, looked to have steadied the ship but should have gone on and got out in uncharacteristically sloppy style. 8

Ben Stokes (79 & 1-62): Strong performance with the bat and shaped well early with the ball before it fell apart a bit towards the end. Too many extras. 9

Jos Buttler (34): Was done by a Jason Holder slower-ball just when England didn't need it and did not contribute enough with the bat. 6

Moeen Ali (12 & 0-51): Did not bowl particularly well and wasn't able to make the contribution England needed with the bat. 4

Tom Curran (0 & 0-62): Didn't quite have the impact with the ball he would have been hoping for when there are World Cup places up for grabs. The lbw decision to get rid of him was, to put it mildly, a shocker. 5

Adil Rashid (15 & 1-28): England might have won the first ODI a little more easily had they got Rashid on earlier, as they did in this game. Got Gayle and got Bravo with a superb run out. 8

Liam Plunkett (15 & 1-39): Started a little slowly but had a really decent spell where he consistently executed his slower-ball bouncers. Did what he could with the bat. 7

Mark Wood ( & 1-38): Seems a completely new bowler to the one England have been picking for the last few years. An injustice that he only got one wicket. 8

Ben Stokes was the star player for England

West Indies

Chris Gayle (50 & 0-15): Showed the problems that come with his age. Teams will rarely complain about a player getting 50, but it looked at one point that the slow pace of his innings and his inability to run singles might cost his team. 8

John Campbell (23): Another 'promising' innings from the aggressive opener. Looks good but his team will be hoping he starts to fulfill that promise.  6

Shai Hope (33): Will be livid he did not get more runs, and probably would have got more if he had been batting with someone more mobile than Gayle. 7

Darren Bravo (25): Looked tidy and could have got more but was run out by a really accurate throw from Adil Rashid. 6

Shimron Hetmyer (104*): Magnificent. Simply magnificent batting. The sort of player you pay your money to go see and end up feeling like you got a bargain. 10

Jason Holder (3 & 3-53): What a player, what a hero. England looked pretty much to be cruising in this match, but then Holder happened. First Stokes, then Buttler and finally Curran (even if it was never ever out). 9

Carlos Brathwaite (13 & 1-37): Got going eventually with the bat after (somehow) surviving most of a blistering spell from Mark Wood and took the match-winning wicket. 6

Ashley Nurse (13* & 0-69): Not his finest game and continued to struggle in the field, scored some valuable runs down the order but not great. 4

Devendra Bishoo (DNB & 0-49): Took a bit of stick in his first spell but returned really well in his second. A shocker of a drop from Holder deprived him of at least one wicket. 7

Sheldon Cottrell (DNB & 5-46): What a sensational performance. Didn't play the first ODI and made an absolutely huge difference and was one of the two players who won the game for the Windies. 10

Oshane Thomas (DNB & 1-72): Looks a promising player who can generate some very good pace. Was quite expensive but took the very valuable wicket of Joe Root. 7
