Lewis rejects offer of white-ball contract from Cricket West Indies

Cricket West Indies revealed Evin Lewis's decision on Monday, when revealing the list of central contracts handed out for the coming year

Evin Lewis has turned down the offer of a white-ball central contract with West Indies.

The explosive opener becomes the latest in a long line of prominent Windies cricketers - including Chris Gayle and Sunil Narine - to have declined a deal with the governing body.

Cricket West Indies revealed Lewis's decision on Monday, when revealing the list of central contracts handed out for the coming year.

Though the previous terms only ended on September 30, the new contracts will be backdated to start on July 1 as administrators look to ensure that all players are on the same cycle.

Red, white and all-format deals have been introduced, with four players - Shai Hope, Jason Holder, Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph - being given the latter.

Chairman of selectors Courtney Browne said the move "allows for the better management of players as it relates to their development."

He continued: "At the time of recommending contracts in June some players would have developed in different formats after the process had finished, so their recent performances can’t be considered until the next contract cycle."
