A latecomer to the game, Tye's excellent set of variations means he is an important bowler at the end of the innings
Born: December 12, 1986
Role: Right-hand bat, right-arm medium fast
A bowler with a seemingly never-ending bag of tricks, Andrew Tye only made his professional debut for Western Australia aged 26 in 2013.
Even then, his potency in white ball cricket was clear to see as he ended the domestic One-Day competition as its second leading wicket-taker with 13 at an average of 19.30.
The next year, Tye debuted for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash but a lack of game time saw him move to Perth Scorchers where he has very quickly established himself as one of the world’s best death bowlers.
His exploits in Australia earned him an international T20I debut against India in 2016 and his first IPL deal in 2017 with Gujarat Lions. His 5-17 on his first appearance, against Rising Pune Supergiants, included a hat-trick and underlined just how good Tye is.
A stint the following year with Kings XI Punjab earned him the leading wicket-taker’s purple cap.
In international cricket, Tye’s yorkers and famed knuckleball earned him a 2018 ODI debut and a national contract from Cricket Australia.
