Wahab Riaz's Hundred participation hanging in the balance after work permit issue

The 36-year-old was denied entry to the UK and will discover next week if he can return in time for the start of the competition

The Hundred is facing another international withdrawal in Wahab Riaz is unable to amend a work permit issue which saw his entry to the United Kingdom blocked.

The 36-year-old was returned home to Pakistan from the airport after his paperwork was rejected.

Due to represent Trent Rockets in the 100-ball competition, the men's tournament begins on July 22, Wahab will discover next week if he is able to fulfil the deal.

"My work permit number has been issued but I will know by next week when I can leave again when I get my proper work permit visa," he said.

A spokesperson for The Hundred told Cricbuzz: "We are aware that Wahab Riaz has had an issue with his visa and is travelling back to Pakistan to prepare the correct paperwork. Trent Rockets will arrange for a short-term replacement if required."

Compatriot Mohammad Amir is also due to compete in the competition having been signed up by London Spirit.

Pakistan are currently in the UK for a six-match white-ball tour against world champions England.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to several big-name withdrawals from the inaugural 100-ball tournament. Ellyse Perry became the latest overseas star to pull out from the women's edition due to "personal circumstances".
