Chris Green banned from bowling for illegal action after being cited during Big Bash

The 26-year-old could theoretically still be picked as a batsman by Thunder for the remainder of the Big Bash season but the suspension effectively ends his campaign

Australian allrounder Chris Green has received a 90-day bowling suspension after being cited for an illegal action.

T20 specialist Green underwent testing in Brisbane on Sunday after being called up during his Sydney Thunder side's game against Melbourne Renegades last week.

The tests showed Green's action to be illegal and he has subsequently been banned from bowling for three months - though that only applies to Cricket Australia competitions, meaning he is free to feature for other franchises around the world.

The 26-year-old could theoretically still be picked as a batsman by Thunder for the remainder of the Big Bash season but the suspension effectively ends his campaign.

Green may still bowl for his Premier Cricket club with the consent and under the supervision of Cricket New South Wales.

"We’d like to commend Chris and the Thunder for the way they have approached this process with complete cooperation and respect,” said Cricket Australia’s head of cricket operations Peter Roach.

"Chris undertook testing at the earliest possible time and satisfactorily replicated his bowling action in the controlled environment.

"We look forward to working with Chris in the coming months and conducting further testing once the suspension period has elapsed."
