The competition will begin on Sunday July 26 with a full schedule planned
The 49th edition of The Cricketer Village Cup will start this Sunday – July 26. The announcement follows the government’s decision to allow recreational cricket to resume earlier this month.
The tournament, organised by The Cricketer since its inception in 1972, was due to begin on Sunday, April 19 in the Essex & Suffolk region. But it was suspended indefinitely following the coronavirus outbreak.
The rearranged tournament will stick to its original 40-over format, with rounds taking place each Sunday until the final.
The news that the tournament would be played this summer was music to the ears of clubs nationwide, as for many this prestigious competition is the centrepiece of their season and may be their only chance for silverware.
The 2020 edition of the tournament will be the only nationwide club competition in the British recreational game, with players of all ages across England and Wales competing for a place in cricketing history.
The Cricketer would like to thank our sponsors Pipers Crisps, ExtraCover Insurance, Bola and Lord’s Taverners for their continuous support throughout this difficult period.
