There had been speculation that Steve Smith would seek a hearing over the charges brought against him by Cricket Australia in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal
Steve Smith has been banned for a year
Former Australia captain Steve Smith will not contest his one-year ban.
There had been speculation that Smith would seek a hearing over the charges brought against him by Cricket Australia in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal.
However, in a statement posted to social media on Wednesday, he rules out that course of action.
"I would give everything to have this behind me and be back representing my country," the statement read.
"But I meant what I said about taking full responsibility as captain of the team.
"I won't be challenging the sanctions.
David Warner has yet to announce his intentions
"They have been imposed by CA to send a strong message and I have accepted them."
Smith will now not be permitted to play in any international or state match until April 2019, while overseas boards will uphold Cricket Australia's suspension.
That has already meant Smith losing his IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals, while reports say no counties will be allowed to sign the 28-year-old.
The punishments stem from the incident in Cape Town last month involving Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, which rocked world cricket
Warner and Bancroft have yet to reveal whether they will dispute the Cricket Australia sanctions. Media outlets in Australia have stated that Warner in particular has been looking at his legal options.
