With a host of memorable moments to choose from, we’ve sifted through the highlights to find a few of the truly exceptional performances of last year’s tournament.

Ben Stokes and his magic catch

In an incredibly strong start to the 2019 Cricket World Cup, we saw some legendary moments right off the top. Ultimately sending England to an important early victory, Ben Stokes blew everyone’s mind with a daring one-handed diving catch that left everyone doing a double-take. Removing Phehlukwayo of South Africa, there’s no doubt that this was a catch for the history books and got the tournament off to an exciting start.

Kuldeep Yadav dazzles Babar Azam

Another highlight came during the much-anticipated matchup between India and Pakistan. Tensions were running high when the two finally came together on June 16th, and the match provided all the thrilling action that fans were hoping for. After a wild start to the game, it began to look like Pakistan would finally beat India. Not a moment too soon though, Kuldeep Yadav took full advantage of the opportunity to shine by producing a stunning ball that baffled his opponent, Babar Azam, nicely. The ball ended up squeaking past the inside edge and sent Azam back to pavilion for 48. Proving to be a defining moment, following this, Pakistan began to fall apart and ultimately lost the match.

All hail Williamson

New Zealand came out of the gates strong in 2019. Making it look easy, they won their first four games and seemed to be sailing towards victory. South Africa was determined to give them a hard time though and after being pushed to their limit, they needed eight off the last over to maintain their flawless start. A single off the first saw Williamson on strike against Phehlukwayo, and he played all his cards right, nailing an impressive six that tied the score. Racking up another four on the next ball he certainly proved that he was deserving of the player of the tournament title which we would ultimately be named. Despite the fact that New Zealand was defeated by England in the final, his exceptional performance on the pitch and overall leadership will go down in history.

Morgan goes for the six, then again, then again

Eoin Morgan of England got a taste of those sixes and afterward proved insatiable. Relentless in his scoring against Afghanistan, he racked up 148 off just 71 balls, earning himself a notable world record of 17 sixes. No doubt in large part thanks to his impressive performance, England ended up walking away with the highest score of the tournament.
