The Cricketer digital platforms have followed on from the success of 2019, where we reached 2.5m fans, by smashing records this April. In the last week alone, unique users were up 140% year on year despite their being no cricket to report on due to the ongoing pandemic. The average time spent by fans on the site continues to grow as does social traffic.

These incredible figures have been achieved thanks to the creation of a number of initiatives such as The Quarantine Cup, an eSports competition featuring professional cricketers from across the country. Digital editor Sam Morshead picks up the story:

“We realised from the outset of lockdown that this was going to be a lonely summer and that through cricket, we could be a friend to each and every single member of our audience. We dispensed with our usual news service and allowed our journos to generate more detailed, interesting, absorbing, lose-yourself-in-the-story content. And we decided to put our heads together to create an alternative schedule of cricket to provide fans with a reason to love staying at home.

“The reaction to The Quarantine Cup has been superb. Counties and their players have fully bought into the concept, while the commentators from local BBC cricket coverage and Test Match Special have been incredibly generous with their time too.”

The Cricketer is set to launch The National Corridor Cup, a competitive hybrid of corridor cricket, office cricket and one-tip, which is open to absolutely everyone - from England internationals to kids stuck at home. An ‘Ask the Analyst’ featuring editor Simon Hughes answering readers’ questions was successfully launched last week, while plans are advanced with The Club Cricket Quest - a text adventure challenge to lead a village side to promotion. New podcasts are also planned in the coming weeks.

There are fantastic advertising packages available that will enable your brand to take advantage of the unprecedented growth of our digital channels.

These include a month-long homepage takeover and run of site advertising bundle, promoting your key messages through to the finals of The Quarantine Cup and the launch of The Corridor Cup.
