Simon Harmer, Ryan Higgins and Dom Sibley have also been nominated
Ben Stokes has been Nominated for Player of the Year
Ben Stokes is one of the four players who have been nominated for the Players’ Player of the Year award. This is being handed out by the Professional Cricketer’s Association and there is a very good reason as well. Stokes has helped England to win the World Cup for the very first time. The Essex spinner who is known as Simon Harmer and Ryan Higgins, an all-rounder from Gloucestershire have also been nominated. They join the Dom Sibley, a batsman from Warwickshire.
The winner for the award is going to be announced in London. The date is set for the 2nd of October and this is going to be a very exciting time for the association. Stokes, who is only 28 years old could be the sixth person to win the Players’ Player of the Year award, along with the Young Player of the Year award. He won the Young Player award in the year 2013, after an absolutely stunning performance.
An Unbeaten Record
Ben Stokes was able to secure an unbeaten 84 in the World Cup Final and he helped to tip the odds for sports betting UK websites. When England beat New Zealand, it’s safe to say that he was a star performer. Over the year, he managed to score 441 runs including a match-winning result of 135 and he even had a one-wicket win. This happened in Headingley.
Harmer who is South African helped to take Essex to victory. He’s only 30 years old and he took part in the T20 Blast. If he carries on with his performance then he might be able to add a County Championship title too, and this could be very exciting news indeed.
Higgins was born in Zimbabwe and he’s 24 years of age. He was a key part in the Gloucestershire promotion, and this was for the first time since the year 2005. If he was to come away with the award, then this would certainly mean a lot to him as he would be able to see first-hand how all of his hard work is paying off.
The Other Players
Lastly, there is Sibley, who is 24 years of age. He was called up to the test squad for England as part of the winter’s tour. He had an amazing season for the bears and he also managed to score 1,324 Championship runs. He managed an average of 69.68 prior to the final game which was against Yorkshire. He played for Surrey in the past and he has also been nominated for Young Player of the Year.
He’s currently alongside Tom Banton and James Bracey. Zak Crawley is also in the running, but right now it’s not certain who is the favourite.
Sophie Ecclestone and Katherine Brunt are also nominated for being the player of the year in the Women’s division. Ecclestone could end up winning the award for the second time, but she’ll also have to beat Amy Jones and right now it looks like things are very close. Of course, only time will tell.
