South Africa captain Faf du Plessis says his side's World Cup campaign has been partly derailed by the raft of injuries which have beset the team.

Dale Steyn and Hashim Amla both missed the 21-run loss to Bangladesh at The Oval - The Proteas' second in as many games in the tournament.

While Steyn is making progress in his recovery from a shoulder problem, 36-year-old Amla was omitted as a precaution after taking a blow on the helmet in the defeat to England in the opening game.

To add insult to injury, Lungi Ngidi was forced off the field with a hamstring injury after bowling just four overs and has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against India on Wednesday in Southampton.

It forced Du Plessis to turn to the likes of Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo in the death overs, which helped Bangladesh push to an insurmountable 330 for 6.

And while replacements are not yet being considered, Du Plessis says being unable to field his first-choice XI leaves him hamstrung.

"Any captain would say that it is not easy.

"I can't complain about it, that is not going to change anything. The team has to find a way.

"It is not going for us from an injury point of view. Our Plan A was to have all our fast bowlers bowling at the same time and then we do have a good attack.

"To lose one we become an okay attack, to lose two there is more pressure on us and it changes completely how we set our team up.

"That was never part of the plan. But that is life and you've got to role with the punches.

"Plan A was those bowlers playing together. They haven't done that on this tour.

"We have to look at what we have to do to be effective. Is it playing all the allrounders together? Is it playing two spinners? It now reshuffling our cards and seeing how we can deal with it."
