Saqlain Mushtaq has criticised Mickey Arthur in the wake of Pakistan's elimination from the Asia Cup, saying the head coach did not have a coherent plan.

Pakistan lost to Bangladesh by 37 runs in their final Super Fours match on Wednesday, meaning their opponents will face India in the competition's final.

Former offspinner Saqlain put much of the blame at what he described as Arthur's experimentation.

"In this tournament, Mickey Arthur never had a clear vision of what is the best combination or what is the best XI for Pakistan," he told ESPNcricinfo.

"We (kept) doing too many experiments. The batting line-up had no quality."

Saqlain also directed criticism at Pakistan's squad selection, specifically the decision not to include Azhar Ali in their party for the tournament.

"We put a label on him which said that Azhar can’t play one-day cricket," he said.

"I believe that if Azhar is best in Test cricket, I think he will be able to do a good job in one-day. He is still the best player in the top order whom you can rely on.

"We lost key players, there is no strategy whatsoever, there is no plan."
