Northamptonshire wicketkeeper batsman Ricardo Vasconcelos has signed a new three-year deal at the County Ground that will see him stay at the club until the end of the 2021 domestic season.

20-year-old Vasconcelos, who has played in 49 matches across all formats for Boland in South Africa and Northamptonshire, has impressed at the county with his performances behind the wicket and with the bat.

The South African, who joined Northants at the start of 2018, scored his maiden Championship hundred against Middlesex in August while the wicketkeeper batsman has scored 1225 runs in 20 first-class matches in his career.

Speaking about the contract extension, Vasconcelos told Northamptonshire's official website: "I’ve really enjoyed the summer. It’s been great to get stuck in and its always nice to get a few runs on the board and contribute to the team.

"We haven’t had the season we’d hope for but I’ve personally learnt a lot from the guys and am really looking forward to pushing on again over the next few years.”

Northamptonshire head coach, David Ripley, said: "Ricardo has impressed everybody with the quality of his batting. We took a bit of a punt on each other and the signs are things are working out very well for both parties.

"I look forward to seeing him establish himself in our side and continue to improve with both bat and gloves.”
