4,738

On Saturday, Tim Paine registered his second first-class century, 13 years (4,738 days) after scoring his first.

Australia’s Test captain struck 121 for Tasmania against Western Australia at the WACA in the Sheffield Shield - his first hundred since hitting 215 at the same ground in 2006.

This week we have seen two players go down to self-inflicted injuries. Australia’s Mitch Marsh will miss the start of the Test summer after punching a wall following his dismissal during Western Australia's clash with Tasmania on Sunday.

Marsh is something of a trendsetter with South Africa’s Aiden Markram following a similar path. The batsman has been ruled out of the final Test of the India series with a fractured risk after he struck an object in frustration following his second-innings dismissal at Pune.

499

After 18 years with Essex, Ravi Bopara has left for pastures new, linking up with Jason Gillespie at Sussex. Bopara made 499 appearances for the club across all formats, scoring 101 half-centuries and 37 hundreds.

2020

In better news for Essex fans, the club’s red-ball skipper Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a one-year contract extension which takes his current deal through of the end of the 2020 season.

Warwickshire stalwart Jeetan Patel has been appointed as a spin bowling consultant for England’s five-match IT20 series against New Zealand.

No.1

The world’s No.1 ranked T20I batsman, Babar Azam, has been appointed as captain of his national side. Babar replaces Sarfraz Ahmed who as been stripped of both the Test and T20 captaincy. Azhar Ali takes over the role in the five-day format.

Notts failed to win a single County Championship fixture this summer, resulting in relegation from Division One. Even so, head coach Peter Moores has been handed a new two-year deal with the club.

Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "This year has been tough for everyone involved with the club. However, we all believe the squad we have assembled has the talent and potential to get us back to where we need to be.”
