Tymal Mills has extended his contract with Sussex for a further year.

The 27-year-old, who plays as a T20 specialist as a result of a congenital back condition, first joined Sussex in time for the 2015 season.

The four-time England international endured a frustrating end to the 2019 season, when a separate back injury ruled him out of the latter stages of Sussex’s T20 campaign, having begun in fine fettle as Sussex spent the first half of the group stages unbeaten.

He played seven matches in this year’s Vitality Blast, taking seven wickets, with an economy rate of 6.52 – the best of any Sussex player to have bowled at least ten overs. Only six players in the overall competition enjoyed a better record.

Mills said: “I’m really pleased to have committed to Sussex for another year. It’s a place that I love to call my home and I hope I’ll be playing here for many more years to come.

“It was another frustrating season for me this summer as I felt I was bowling as well as I probably ever have done and was loving being out there with our high class T20 side, before suffering a stress fracture.

“I already can’t wait until next summer to getting back out under the lights at Hove and putting on a show with the rest of the lads.”

Sussex head coach Jason Gillespe added: “As a left-arm seamer with raw pace he brings a real point of difference to our T20 side.

“He missed a few games this year with injury but Tymal works incredibly hard to keep himself fit and strong and to get himself on the park. We look forward to seeing him play as many games as possible for Sussex in the future.”

Mills will be joined by his former Essex teammate Ravi Bopara, who joined the county on Wednesday.
