The ICC have issued the bowler with a fourth demerit point which will see him absent for the final match of the series at the Wanderers
South Africa's Kagiso Rabada has been banned for the fourth Test against England after being adjudged to have over-celebrated his dismissal of Joe Root.
Rabada bowled the tourists' captain for 27 on day one of the third Test in Port Elizabeth and marked the crucial breakthrough with an emotional roar.
But the ICC have deemed the reaction contravenes their rules and have hit the 24-year-old with a demerit point and a 15 per cent fine, which Rabada accepted.
A statement from world cricket's governing body said the punishment related to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his or her dismissal".
The fourth such reprimand in a 24-month period means Rabada is banned for the fourth Test at the Wanderers which starts next Friday, January 24.
All three previous offences took place in 2018, two in the Test series against Australia - which led to a ban for the final two Test matches - and another in a one-day international with India.
While the news is a blow to South Africa's hopes of prevailing in the series, it will also hurt their annual representation targets.
The Proteas must field six players of colour, two of which must be black African, on average over a single season. They are already short of that goal.
