Afghanistan bowler Rashid Khan will play no further part in their game against New Zealand after failing two concussion tests following a blow to the head when batting.

The 20-year-old, who was struck on the head when he was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson, will therefore play no further part in the game as a precautionary measure.

Rashid ducked right into the short ball from Ferguson after committing to the frontfoot.

Rashid Khan was visibly shaken

He tried playing with his bat but the ball went on to hit him on the helmet grille before eventually hitting the stumps. The New Zealand players and Rashid’s partner soon ran towards him before he walked off looking visibly shaken.

The incident occurred in the 34th over of Afghanistan's innings, which saw Gulbadin Naib's men bowled out for 172 in Taunton, in which Khan was bowled for zero after just four deliveries.

The leg-spinner has become the second player this World Cup to suffer such a blow, with South Africa’s Hashim Amla also suffering a similar blow against England, which also forced him off the field.

Amla however did come out to bat later in the game although he missed the Proteas' next clash against Bangladesh.
