The teenage batsman will work with the senior team from next term as he bids for his professional debut with the County Ground club
Derbyshire have added batsman Nils Priestley to their squad for the 2020 season after awarding the youngster with a one-year contract.
The 19-year-old is a graduate of the club's academy, which is underpinned by a partnership with the local university and is on course for his senior debut next term.
Priestley scored 136 runs in the Second XI Championship last season, including an 84 against Northamptonshire.
"I’m really pleased to have signed but the hard work does not stop here, I know that I have got to keep driving myself forward and take my chances," said Priestley.
"This club means a lot to me, I am really proud to represent Derbyshire, and I can’t wait to get started again next season."
Head of cricket Dave Houghton added: "Nils has impressed us in the Second XI and deserves this opportunity.
"He has a lot of talent and now has the chance to develop and recognise his potential."
