Bairstow and Malan are quarantining following their return from the Indian Premier League, but both could feasibly return to red-ball action when Yorkshire play Lancashire at the end of May
Yorkshire’s County Championship clash with Glamorgan later this week will come too early for Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan, both of whom are still in quarantine following their returns from the Indian Premier League.
However, both could feasibly return to red-ball action when Yorkshire face Lancashire at the end of May at Emirates Old Trafford – should they not be involved in England’s Test plans for the two-match series against New Zealand in early June.
Yorkshire head coach Andrew Gale spoke at the conclusion of a rain-ruined draw against Kent on Sunday at Headingley to confirm the availability of the England white-ball pair, both of whom were on IPL duty – Bairstow with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Malan with Punjab Kings – before the tournament was suspended due to Covid-19.
Gale told the ECB Reporters Network: “I’ve spoken to Jonny, and he’s an England player. We will have to see what the ECB say about him.
“I’ll have to chat to Dawid. I’m hopeful that he will be available for the Lancashire game.”

Joe Root, who has featured in four of Yorkshire’s five rounds of fixtures so far, will face Glamorgan for the second time this season. In their first encounter, Billy Root outshone his England captain brother, making a second innings century.
England’s Test skipper, meanwhile, has passed fifty just once in eight innings – in a 200-run victory over Kent at Canterbury.
He will not be available for the Lancashire fixture, however, with his preparations by then set to be underway for England’s Test series against New Zealand.
