Hampshire have confirmed the signing of South Africa allrounder Chris Morris as an overseas player for the T20 Blast.

Part of the Proteas' 50-over World Cup squad, the 32-year-old will join up with Hants for the duration of the competition which starts in July.

In 171 T20 matches, Morris has taken 215 wickets at 21.82 and scored 1410 runs at a strike-rate of 152.10.

Chris Morris said: “I’m really looking forward to joining Hampshire for the Vitality Blast. It's an exciting tournament and it’s an exciting summer coming up - I can’t wait to get there and play at the Ageas Bowl and express what I can do.”

Director of cricket, Giles White added: “We were delighted when Chris agreed early on to join us for the season.

"He’s a dynamic batsman in the middle-order and a handful with the ball both up front and at the death, so he’s a great fit for us and hopefully he’ll make a big difference this summer.”

Earlier this week, Morris replaced Amrich Nortje in the South Africa squad for the World Cup after he withdrew with a hand injury.

Morris is the first overseas player recruited by Hampshire for the competition, with counties permitted to have two.

They start their campaign against Sussex on July 19 at the Ageas Bowl.
