Emily Smith handed three-month anti-corruption ban for revealing Hobart Hurricanes team on Instagram

The wicketkeeper will miss the remainder of the Women's Big Bash after being handed a three-month ban after making inside information public knowledge

Hobart Hurricanes wicketkeeper Emily Smith has been banned for three months on anti-corruption charges, Cricket Australia have confirmed.

The 24-year-old revealed her team's line-up for the Women's Big Bash clash against Sydney Thunder on November 2 one hour before it was scheduled to be released via a video posted through her Instagram account.

Though the match was eventually abandoned due to rain and replayed 24 hours later - Thunder won by six wickets - her actions were a breach of CA's anti-corruption code.

Article 2.3.2 of the regulations states that individuals are barred from "disclosing inside information to any person (with or without reward) where the participant knew or might reasonably have known that such disclosure might lead to the information being used in relation to betting in relation to any match or event".

Cricket Australia are happy that Smith did not intend to break the rules, but have slapped her with a 12-month ban, nine of which are suspended. She is free to return to competition on February 11, 2020, which also rules her out of the rest of the Women's National Cricket League.

Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia's Head of Integrity and Security added: "We have been working with Emily throughout the process and Emily now understands the mistake she made. We hope this serves as a reminder to all that the anti-corruption code is critical to protecting the integrity of the game."

In a further statement, Cricket Tasmania accepted the judgment and promised to review "its processes for players and support staff" to ensure no further breaches occur.

Emma Mannix-Greeves has been bought into the Hurricanes squads for the remainder of the Big Bash for the final two weeks of group matches. Hobart have won just two of their nine games and are outsiders to qualify for the knockout phase.
