Olivier has penned a three-year deal at Headingley, by the end of which he could qualify to represent England by virtue of the ECB's recently-updated residency rules
Duanne Olivier has stated a desire to play for England after calling time on his South Africa career by signing as a Kolpak for Yorkshire.
Olivier has penned a three-year deal at Headingley, by the end of which he could qualify to represent England by virtue of the ECB's recently-updated residency rules. And in an interview with the Daily Mail he revealed that he would be keen to pull on the Three Lions at some stage.
"I accept that my Test career is over for South Africa but if I do well, hopefully in the future, I can play for England. You always need to put your mind to certain goals," he said.
"Maybe people will think it's unrealistic but for me, if I really do well, you never know. I can't tell you what will happen in the future. All I can do, as of now, is control what I am doing this season and give 100 per cent every game.

"I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and if you just concentrate on doing well that will take care of itself. I don't think too far ahead. Yes, it will be a goal to play for England one day and it would be amazing but for now my pure focus is on Yorkshire and just doing well for them."
Olivier claimed 48 wickets in 10 Tests for South Africa and his loss will be keenly felt, given he was seen as a natural successor for Dale Steyn.
The suggestion that he is also willing to switch allegiances will undoubtedly further stoke the flames of discontent among Proteas fans.
In order to qualify to represent England in the 2022 summer, Olivier must remain in the UK for at least 210 days per year and not play any form of cricket as a homegrown player back in South Africa during that time.
