One Devon groundsman has made the most of the lack of cricket, and created a giant tribute to the NHS.

Charlie Woolnough, who looks after Shaldon Optimists' Hazeldown Oval, turned the car parking area at his club's venue into an eye-catching nod to the men and women risking their lives to save others' during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The huge NHS logo, mowed inside a heart, was captured by a Wildcat helicopter from nearby RNAS Yeovilton.

Woolnough's daughter works in the National Health Service.

He told Devon Cricket's website: "I have seen just how hard she and her colleagues have been working and how much strain they are under.

"On the spur of the moment I decided to do something to pay tribute to the NHS and just got carried away.

"I drew the letters NHS first then put a heart around them, all done freehand with no help from GPS.

"You can’t see from ground level what it looks like and you don’t know who is going to see it."
